France's gambling regulator has mandated internet service providers to block Polymarket, labeling it an illegal gambling site. The decision follows concerns about addictive mechanics and the platform's accessibility to French users despite previous restrictions.
The Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) issued the order on July 16, citing a high volume of French users circumventing financial restrictions. In June, Polymarket recorded 578,751 visits from 205,057 unique visitors in France, according to Similarweb data. The ANJ noted that the site's homepage, which displays real-time odds, promotes unauthorized gambling services, leading to potential fines of up to 100,000 euros ($114,380).
