The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has fined Polymarket for operating without a license in the Netherlands. KSA emphasizes the importance of complying with Dutch gambling laws to protect society.

The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has taken action against Polymarket, a prediction market platform, for operating without the required Dutch gaming license. KSA considers Polymarket's services as unauthorized gambling and has penalized the operator for non-compliance.

Despite warnings to cease operations and stop accepting money from Dutch players, Polymarket continued to offer its platform to Dutch users. As a result, KSA imposed a weekly penalty of 420,000 euros on Polymarket, capped at 840,000 euros, with the possibility of additional fines based on revenue from the Dutch market.

Ella Seijsener, KSA’s director for permits and supervision, stated that prediction markets are not permitted under Dutch law, even for licensed operators, due to societal risks and potential influence on elections. She emphasized that entities without a KSA license are not allowed in the Dutch market.

In a separate update, Carol Verheij was appointed as vice chair of KSA’s board of directors, ahead of a planned regulatory overhaul in 2026.
